Bracken County (0-1) at Middletown (Ohio) Christian (0-2)
When: 7:30 Friday
Where: Atrium Field, Franklin, Ohio
Coaches: Bracken -- Chuck Faust (1-20 in third year); Middletown Christian -- Bill Egner (3-9 in second year).
Radio: none
Noteworthy: Both schools are relatively new to football, with this being only the second year of varsity play for the Eagles, who were 3-7 in 2007. They have played two games this season, losing at Clark Montessori in Cincinnati in their opener, 28-14, and falling at home to New Miami last week, 44-8. The Polar Bears lost their opener last week, dropping a 32-6 decision at home to Berea. Faust was pleased with some aspects of that game, but would like to see more defensive consistency. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Lewis County (0-1) at Bath County (1-0)
When: 7:30 Friday
Where: Bath County Stadium in Owingsville
Coaches: Lewis -- Josh Hughes (0-1 in first year); Bath -- Reed Fields (16-17 in fourth year).
Radio: WKKS-FM (104.9)
Noteworthy: The Class 2A Wildcats began their season with a 24-14 win at West Carter, and defeated the Lions last year in Vanceburg, 58-14. Fields has done an excellent job rebuilding the Bath County program, going 7-4 the past two seasons, after a 1-9 campaign in 2005. Senior Zak Metz and junior Aaron Ashby-Boyd lead the Wildcats' running attack. Hughes will be seeking his first win as the Lions' head coach, after falling to Fairview, 27-0, a week ago in Lewis County's home opener.
Fleming County (0-1) at Rowan County (1-0)
When: 7:30 Friday
Where: Viking Stadium in Morehead
Radio: WFLE-FM (95.1)
Coaches: Fleming -- Gene Peterson (61-34 in ninth year); Rowan -- ShaDon Brown (1-0 in first year).
Noteworthy: Rowan County opened in West Liberty last week, and blew out a young Morgan County team, 55-8. The Class 4A Vikings have a new head coach, ShaDon Brown, who took over this year for Bill Baldridge. T.J. "Thunder" Chin and Darrel "Lightning" Cross led the Rowan County running game in their opener, combining for 196 yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Vikings will be looking for revenge after falling in Flemingsburg last year, 21-18, allowing all of the Panthers' points in the final 7:03 of the game. Peterson is looking for improvement on the defensive side of the ball after giving up big play after big play in Saturday's 48-35 loss to Harrison County.
Manchester (0-2) at Southeastern (0-2)
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: Southeastern High School, Richmond Dale, Ohio
Coaches: Manchester -- Nick Neria (0-2, first year); Southeastern -- Reggie Wax (0-2, first year)
Radio: None
Noteworthy: Last week, Southeastern was tied at halftime before losing 26-7 to Sciotoville East, which has won 15 straight regular season games. ... Southeastern quarterback Chase Colburn has thrown a TD pass in each game while running back Jordan Elam had one receiving and two runshing touchdowns in Week 1. ... Wax is in his first year as a head coach after stints as an assistant at Chillicothe and Waverly. ... Manchester's coverage units have struggled, giving up six return touchdowns in two games, including four in the first quarter of a 53-14 loss at Northwest last week. ... Manchester quarterback Dawson Little scored both touchdowns last week, an 80-yard kick return and 8-yard rush. ... The Greyhounds have fallen victim to the big play, giving up 10 touchdowns of 30 yards or more. ... Both teams have had a hard time stopping the run, with each allowing an opponent to rush for over 400 yards in a game this year. ... The game was originally scheduled at Manchester, but due to stadium construction, the Greyhounds will be the home team in an opposing stadium for the second week in a row. |
