Maysville City Commission approves ordinance regulating the sale of catalytic converters

Maysville City Commission approved an ordinance to regulate the sale of catalytic converters, after the second of two readings Thursday night.

The ordinance is designed to regulate the sale of used catalytic convertors within the city limits. Under the ordinance, anyone who purchases a catalytic converter within the city is required to check the identification of the seller and keep a record of the seller's name and address.

The ordinance will also require the seller to produce proof of ownership of the car from which the catalytic converter has been removed, and keep a record of the proof of ownership. Records must be kept for six years.

Also during Thursday's meeting:

-- Commissioners accepted the resignation of firefighter David Berry.

-- Walter Teegarden was appointed a probationary Fire Officer.

-- Susan Prat was appointed Tourism Coordinator, a position previously held by Susie Gentry, effective May 14, 2008.

-- Received an update on Second Street storm sewer repairs from City Engineer Sam Baker. Baker said the first portion of the project is complete and ready for paving and milling. The project has moved up to Bodies in Motion on Second Street and is six to eight weeks away from completion.

-- A resolution was approved to extend the Cox Building Renaissance on Main grant agreement. This is an extension of securing the funds because work wasn't able to be completed.

-- A resolution was approved authorizing a contract with Royal Blue Entertainment to perform the Saturday of the Simon Kenton Festival.

-- A resolution authorizing a contract with Poaceous to perform the Sunday of the Simon Kenton Festival was approved.

-- A resolution authorizing a contract with Peter Oprisko Quintet to perform at Maysville Uncorked was approved.

-- A resolution was approved authorizing a letter for American Red Cross to apply for a charitable gaming license.

-- A discussion on the regulation of banners was held.

-- An ordinance amending Code of Ordinance Section 195.06 to add Section 320.411 to the jurisdiction of Codes Enforcement Board had its first reading.

-- An ordinance amending Code of Ordinances Section 11.01 to add civil fines for violation of Land Use Management Sign Regulations had its first reading.

-- A budget workshop was scheduled for May 20, at noon.

" The recyle center is just as guilty as the theif in the stealing of the converters, copper and other items that cost citizens money. Hold them accountable and this rash of crime state and nationally will decrease. Taje away the market to stop the theif. "
